This rosary uses a relatively recently discovered green garnet, a variety of grossular garnet first found near the border of Kenya and Tanzania, with its green tone arising from trace vanadium and iron content. Garnet is actually a broad family term covering some 14 related mineral species, and while wine-red garnet is by far the most familiar, the family also includes green and orange varieties. Green garnet beads are seldom seen in the trade, making this a genuinely rare find; only 3 pieces are available.
