Amber found around the world is the fossilized resin of trees that flourished on land tens of millions of years ago, making it a true 'resin fossil'; some pieces even contain ancient insects, leaves, flowers, or bark preserved during formation, making those examples especially rare and of scientific interest. Amber's coloring varies widely depending on the natural conditions present during its formation, and the most transparent examples are considered especially valuable, sometimes called 'clear amber' for their jewel-like shine. Unlike most gemstones, which are mineral in origin (with a few exceptions such as pearl, coral, and tortoiseshell derived from animals), amber is a rare example of a gemstone of plant origin. This piece features yellow amber notable for its exceptional transparency and pale tone, finished with a light green tassel that lends it a softer, gentler impression than typical amber pieces.
