Larimar is an exceptionally rare stone, sourced only from the Barahona mine in the southern Dominican Republic. Its name was coined by its Dominican discoverer, combining his daughter's name 'Larissa' with 'mar,' the Spanish word for sea; mineralogically it is known as blue pectolite, and is regarded as one of the world's three great healing stones. Production of this Caribbean-blue gem has been declining year over year as its price rises. Prayer beads crafted entirely from larimar require an especially large raw stone to produce the parent bead, making pieces like this difficult to keep in stock. As larimar is a natural stone, slight surface marks may be present.
