Kyomonkoh: Incense Revealing Sacred Words

The Kyomonkoh Series by Nippon Kodo features distinctive incense sticks designed so that Buddhist sutra characters appear naturally in the ash as the incense burns. This unique form invites a moment of quiet reflection, allowing sacred words to emerge gently through the act of offering incense.

Each stick is crafted with a flat shape, a feature essential to the expression of the characters. As the incense burns, the remaining ash forms clearly defined inscriptions, creating a visual presence that continues even after the flame has passed.

How the Characters Appear

To use Kyomonkoh, place the incense stick upright at the center of an incense burner. Embed approximately 3 cm of the lower end into the ash to ensure stability. This positioning allows the incense to burn evenly and helps the sutra characters appear in a balanced and legible form within the ash.

The process unfolds gradually, encouraging a calm and attentive moment as the characters reveal themselves through the natural course of burning.
