Takaoka Metalwork Seven Lucky Gods-shaped Incense Burner

This lidded incense burner is cast in an elegant oval (koban, or old gold-coin) shape and decorated with figures of Ebisu and Daikoku, two of the Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin) revered in Japan as bringers of prosperity, abundance, and good fortune. The rounded silhouette and finely modeled figures make it a distinctive centerpiece for a tokonoma alcove, tea room, or household altar.

This piece is a work of Takaoka Metalwork (Takaoka Doki), a metal casting tradition centered in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, with a history spanning more than 400 years. Each burner is cast using traditional sand-mold casting techniques and finished by hand, resulting in crisp relief detail and a rich patina that develops beautifully with age.

How to Use

Fill the burner about two-thirds full with incense ash, then place lit incense cones, coils, or kneaded incense on top, or set glowing charcoal into the ash to enjoy fragrant woods. The lid can be closed to gently diffuse the fragrance (sora-daki) throughout the room.
