This men's prayer beads set is made from Yakusugi, cedar over 1,000 years old harvested only from fallen timber on the UNESCO World Heritage site of Yakushima island (trees under 100 years are called "kosugi"). Its fine, tightly packed growth rings deepen in color the more the beads are worn. It is paired with Indian jade (aventurine) for the parent and top beads; the stone is traditionally associated with health, longevity, and virtue, and believed to support good relationships. Made in the simple single-strand, cord-tassel style with 22 main beads for the Jodo Shinshu sect, and delivered in a keepsake box.
