This rosary features 18 beads of larimar, a strikingly beautiful natural stone known for its harmonious blend of blue and white tones. Larimar is exceptionally rare, sourced only from the Barahona mine in the southern Dominican Republic. Its name was coined by its Dominican discoverer, combining his daughter's name 'Larissa' with 'mar,' the Spanish word for sea; mineralogically, it is known as blue pectolite. Larimar is regarded as one of the world's three great healing stones. Production of this Caribbean-blue gem has been declining year over year as its price continues to rise, with the source mine now nearly exhausted, making it increasingly difficult to source. Compared to turquoise, larimar has a brighter tone, with white patterning that blends beautifully into its light blue base – a beauty that has made it just as globally popular as turquoise in its own right. Much of the larimar available today leans toward pure white, making sky- or sea-toned pieces like this one especially hard to find. The large beads featured here are rare in their own right, offered at an accessible price due to minor natural surface marks; the larger the bead, the larger the raw stone required, making an 18-bead rosary of this size a particularly valuable find.
