This distinctive rosary features 18 beads, each carved with the likeness of one of the 18 arhats, with each figure's name inscribed along the side of its bead. While arhat carvings are typically rendered in bodhi seed, carvings in amber are rare and highly valued. Here, the arhat carvings are set in mother-of-pearl amber – amber embedded with fragments of abalone shell, a technique also used in the fine inlay work of high-end acoustic guitars, requiring considerable skill to apply to frets and bodies. This mother-of-pearl amber is created by compressing small amber fragments and embedding shell pieces during the shaping of the larger beads. This rosary is offered as a limited-edition item.
