Men's Prayer Beads, Amazon Jade, Mokugyo Carving, Soto Sect

This masterpiece features a mokugyo carving crafted from rare Amazon jade, sourced from the upper reaches of the Amazon River. Jade is broadly divided into two categories: 'hard jadeite,' considered true jade, and 'soft nephrite,' which includes materials such as Indian jade (aventurine). Compared between the two, hard jadeite carries a deeper, more striking color and greater rarity; Amazon jade is classified within this hard jadeite family. In Japan, jade is one of the birthstones for May alongside emerald, long regarded as a symbol of longevity, health, and virtue. The mokugyo, traditionally shaped like a fish because fish are believed never to close their eyes, symbolizes devotion to one's practice at the expense of sleep; the round shape held in the fish's mouth represents earthly desire, with striking the fish's back symbolizing the release of that desire. This piece follows the Soto-sect rosary style. Only one piece is available – a design that will not be offered again.
