Takaoka Copperware Iron Bowl Type Landscape Incense Burner

The name of this incense burner, "iron-bowl type" (tetsubachi-gata), refers to its shape - modelled on the round, deep bowl traditionally carried by Buddhist monks - rather than its material; the piece is cast in Takaoka copperware. Its surface is engraved with a flowing landscape scene (sansui) depicting mountains and water in the classical Japanese style.

Takaoka, in Toyama Prefecture, has been Japan's leading centre of cast metalwork for more than 400 years. This design is available in two finishes.

Design Variations

• With Chrysanthemum Crest Stand - presented on its own wood stand with a chrysanthemum crest (kikumon) and wood nameplate.
• Antique Patina Finish - crafted by Takaoka artisan Nousaku Yoshihide, finished in a warm antique patina; presented in a paulownia box without the crest stand.

How to Use

Fill the burner with incense ash, then place lit incense sticks, cones, or charcoal on top of the ash to enjoy the fragrance.
