A Modern Incense Crafted from Washi Paper

About Washi Paper Incense

Washi Paper Incense is a modern form of incense created by blending traditional incense-making techniques with Japanese washi papermaking. Incense artisans from Awaji Island learned the art of papermaking and developed a unique method of embedding aromatic ingredients directly into washi paper, resulting in a completely new style of incense.

This innovative incense can be enjoyed both unlit and lit, allowing fragrance to be appreciated in multiple ways.

How to Use

To use, tear the paper along the perforated lines, fold the piece into an accordion shape, light it briefly like regular incense, then gently extinguish the flame before placing it on an incense holder. When used this way, it burns cleanly without producing ash.

When lit, it does not carry the burnt paper smell often associated with paper-based incense. Instead, it releases the pure scent of the incense itself. It can also be enjoyed at room temperature by placing a piece on a small dish as a light room fragrance.
