This is a display stand for incense burners, made of wood and finished in a deep ebony-tone (kokutan-cho) stain. Its dark, lacquer-like finish is designed to set off the color and detail of a metal or ceramic incense burner placed on top of it.

Wood stands such as this are traditionally paired with Takaoka copperware incense burners and other decorative pieces, lifting them slightly off the surface they rest on and giving the piece a more formal, finished presentation.

How to Use

Place an incense burner on top of the stand to display it; the stand itself is not used to burn incense.
