Arita Ware Incense Burner – Nishiki Scale-Wave Motif (Square Pillar Form)

This Arita ware incense burner features a Nishiki-style scale-wave motif arranged across a square pillar form. The repeated triangular patterns, inspired by the image of fish scales, create a rhythmic and visually striking surface that feels both traditional and modern.

The scale motif is composed of interlocking triangular shapes that stand out crisply against the white porcelain body. While rooted in classical Japanese design, this pattern carries a contemporary sense of balance and clarity, avoiding any feeling of heaviness or antiquity.

In Japanese performing arts such as Noh theatre, scale patterns have long been used in costumes and textiles, symbolizing strength, protection, and continuity. Rendered in Arita ware porcelain, this motif gains a refined three-dimensional presence that complements modern interior spaces.

How to Use

Fill the incense burner with incense ash up to about four-fifths of its depth. Light the tip of the incense, allow it to smolder, and place it gently on the ash without closing the lid. Closing the lid during use may cause the incense to go out.

For smaller incense burners, stick-type incense can be placed upright in the ash. When not in use, close the lid and enjoy the incense burner as a decorative or interior object.

Due to the handmade nature of this piece, slight variations in pattern alignment, glaze tone, shape, or size may occur. These differences are natural characteristics of handcrafted Arita ware.
