Hachijuhachi-ya means the eighty eight night, which is counted from the first day of spring. This particular night was counted that way since the old times to estimate the day in which the climate changes (the day before this 88 night). It was useful as a reference to start the farmworks and plant the rice and other seeds. The tea harvested that day is called "Hachijuhachi-ya Shincha" (freshly picked tea on the day before 88 night) and it is considered as a precious talisman which protects from illnesses.
