Women's Prayer Beads, Burmese Jade, 8mm Bead, Bodhisattva Tassel

Jade has long been considered one of the most valuable gemstones in China, prized since antiquity as a symbol of status. In Japan, it was worked into magatama beads and other ornaments, and valued as a tool-making stone for its resistance to breaking. Jade is the birthstone for May, said to ward off misfortune, restore balance of mind, and support healthy metabolism; its stone-word meaning is 'health,' which is why prayer beads made from it are often given as a wish for good health. Jade varies widely by origin – Burmese, lavender, Indian, Amazonian, black, and Itoigawa jade among them – each with its own pattern and color. Burmese jade is distinguished by its green tone and distinctive patterning, with transparency and luster increasing at higher grades. This piece is finished with a distinctive bodhisattva-style tassel.
