Men's Prayer Beads, Yakusugi (Yaku Cedar), Shaku-Ni Size, Hokke, Matching Set — Nichiren Sect

Rare Nichiren-sect prayer beads made of Yakusugi. We've prepared Yakusugi, known for its fine, distinctive grain. Cedar trees are generally said to live around 500 years, but Yakusugi cedar lives far longer — trees over 1,000 years old are called Yakusugi, while those under 100 years are called Kosugi. As is well known, Yakusugi is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, and because of this, only fallen trees may be processed into material. A hallmark of Yakusugi is its extremely fine growth rings among woods, which draw the eye of anyone who sees them. Like all wood, the color deepens the more it is used. As the fine growth-ring pattern unique to Yakusugi combines with this deepening color, we think your attachment to the piece will only grow. Given the great age Yakusugi trees can reach, this also makes for a meaningful gift to a grandfather or grandmother, carrying wishes for their long life. Being a wood prayer bead, it can be worn regardless of age. Prayer beads are also said to protect the wearer from misfortune simply by being carried, making them a welcome gift as a charm.
