Motifs such as Arhat, skulls, and eye-patterned stones (like tiger's eye or striped agate) have long been worn as charms against evil, on the belief that carrying something fearsome wards off evil spirits. These beads are carved from peach pit. Agate is said to aid in solving problems, warding off evil, gathering wealth, easing tension, and strengthening love, sincerity, and courage -- here a red agate (rather than striped agate) was chosen for an understated yet refined finish alongside the Arhat carving.
