This strand uses genuine natural sandalwood carved directly into beads, in an Indonesian variety with a sweet scent carrying a touch of tartness. Fragrant woods include agarwood (kyara), aloeswood (jinko), and sandalwood (byakudan), each used as incense material, with sandalwood's scent especially popular across a wide range of customers. Sandalwood has become harder to source in recent years as raw timber grows scarcer, and prices for good-quality material continue to rise even compared to agarwood and aloeswood, which were once costlier. With 70 years of experience as an incense retailer, Kohgen brings the same rigorous inspection standards used for incense wood to its prayer beads.
