Green sandalwood (ryokutan) is a tree native to Southeast Asia, its deep green heartwood entirely natural rather than dyed. Like sendan sandalwood, it carries a faint natural fragrance, and its rich green trunk has earned it the local name "tree of life" -- also known as lignum vitae, a tree long believed by native peoples to govern life itself. Here it is paired with blue moss agate, made up in the sanman jodo style used in Jodo sect practice. The material's composed green tone pairs comfortably with mourning attire, lending the wearer's hands a solemn, dignified look.
