Compressed amber is created by hardening small fragments of amber into larger beads – since carving a single large bead from raw amber requires a correspondingly large (and expensive) piece of raw material, this technique allows the beauty of amber to be enjoyed in a substantial flat-cut bead at a more accessible price.
