This men's prayer beads set is made entirely of black persimmon wood (kurogaki), a variety of Japanese persimmon and a premium material with more distinct grain patterning than the classic hardwoods ebony and rosewood. Black persimmon earns its premium reputation because, out of roughly 100 trees felled, only about one will show this striking black marking, the result of a natural mutation; it is prized for fine tea canisters, ornaments, and other crafted goods for its hardness and the way its color and luster improve over time. A one-of-a-kind piece with a matte finish, sized to shaku-roku for the Soto Zen sect.
