A striking, large-bead take on Kiso cypress prayer beads, using noticeably bigger beads than the standard 22-bead version for a bolder look from the same material. Kiso cypress refers to natural hinoki cypress growing across the Kiso and Ura-Kiso regions, requiring 70 to 80 years to mature compared to the usual 30 to 40 years for ordinary hinoki -- a result of the harsh, cold climate of Nagano's Kiso valley that yields exceptionally fine, tight growth rings and beautiful grain. Held in the hand, its fragrant scent comes through clearly. Here it is finished with yellow jasper, whose warm, amber-like orange tone complements the wood beautifully.
