Jindai Cedar: Used in Fine Architecture and Craftwork
Jindai cedar refers to cedar wood that was buried under volcanic ash thousands of years ago and, rather than decaying, became partially fossilized over time. Some pieces remained buried in ash for as long as 2,000 years before developing their distinctive coloring. It is primarily used as decorative material in fine architecture and craftwork, and we have specially crafted it into prayer beads for this piece. An intriguing characteristic of jindai cedar is that when the raw wood is first split, it has an egg-yolk yellow color; upon exposure to air it turns blue, and finally settles into this calm grayish-brown tone. Its name, meaning 'from the age of the gods,' reflects the sense that this wood, though it has slept for thousands of years, still carries a mysterious breath of life. We invite you to take this opportunity to own this rare jindai cedar, born by chance through the forces of nature.
