Aquamarine takes its name from the Latin for 'sea water,' a nod to its color reminiscent of crystallized ocean water, and it was historically carried as a talisman for safe sea travel. Aquamarine is also a March birthstone alongside coral and bloodstone, associated with Gemini, and said to restore calm and strengthen resolve; its charming pale-blue color has earned it a reputation as a 'stone that makes women beautiful and happy,' which has made it especially popular among women since jewelry use began around the 17th century. This piece uses a rare Mandarin Bead Cut, giving the beads a denser, firmer facet pattern than standard round beads, and shows a deep, vivid sea-blue color throughout – the more vivid the blue, the higher the quality.
