Made by furniture artisans in Okinawa, this strand pairs bright, transparent crystal with Ryukyu cypress for a study in contrasts. Ryukyu cypress is notably more fragrant and longer-lasting than ordinary hinoki, using dense, high-quality timber that is normally reserved for Buddhist altar fittings and rarely made into prayer beads. Because it is rich in natural oils, the surface may feel slightly different at first, but with about a month of regular use it settles in, developing a smooth sheen and a deepening, characterful color -- adapting to the hand faster than most other wood or raw-seed prayer beads.
