These prayer beads are crafted from Rokudo-ki, a rare wood historically associated with the outer gardens of Jingu Shrine – planted there since the end of the Edo period near the site once known as Rokudo-no-Tsuji, from which the tree takes its name. Also known by the nickname 'Najamonja,' the tree blooms with white flowers each May, creating a snow-like scene at full bloom and remaining one of the outer gardens' notable seasonal attractions. Here, the wood has been shaped into rounded beads with a serene, understated presence, and paired with yellow quartz for the main and top beads. Yellow quartz carries a golden glow reminiscent of sunlight and has long been associated with prosperity and business fortune, favored historically among the upper classes for its reputation of drawing people and wealth alike. This piece features an especially large yellow quartz.
