Tiger jasper is a stone originating from Africa, also known as tiger jade. While most jasper is red, this variety is a distinctive dark brown, often appearing nearly black, referred to as tiger jasper. Its beautiful mottled pattern resembles tiger amber, and the mixture of various minerals within gives it a sparkling glimmer, caused by titanium content that catches the light beautifully as the bead is turned. It is also notably heavy due to its higher iron content: while tiger amber weighs around 50 grams, tiger jasper weighs around 130 grams, giving it a substantial, weighty presence. The surface has a slightly rugged texture, a result of the iron content making the stone difficult to cut smoothly, and this texture only adds to its beauty. This tiger jasper took a full year of searching to source and is a genuinely hard-to-find material. Available in a single limited piece.
