Among the many varieties of bodhi seed used in prayer beads, Tenjiku bodhi seed is regarded as the "king" of them all, an extremely rare material found only at high elevations in small quantities and only occasionally available. The seed itself is very hard, yet has the gentle texture characteristic of a natural nut in the hand. It is paired with aged amber for the parent, facing, and top beads; aged amber is amber that has crystallized over an even longer span of time, its color shifting from a near-yellow tone toward orange as heat from the earth acts on it over the years. A single limited piece, sized to shaku-ni for the Soto Zen sect.
