This rosary is crafted from larimar, a natural stone prized for its harmonious blend of blue and white. Larimar is found only at the Barahona mine in the southern Dominican Republic, making it a genuinely rare stone; its name was coined by a Dominican craftsman who combined his daughter's name, Larissa, with 'mar,' the Spanish word for sea. Mineralogically known as blue pectolite, larimar is regarded as one of the world's three great healing stones. Production has declined year over year as the mine nears depletion, driving prices steadily upward; compared with turquoise, larimar shows a brighter tone, with white marbling blending beautifully into its light blue base. Much of the larimar available today skews toward pure white, making a piece with this sky-and-sea-like light blue coloring increasingly hard to find. This is our finest available grade of larimar, supplied with a certificate of authenticity. As larimar is a natural stone, occasional small surface marks may be present.
