Takasago Incense Burner with Ring Handles

Takasago is a celebrated theme from classical Noh theater, symbolized by a pair of ancient pines and associated with marital harmony, longevity, and enduring good fortune. This incense burner is fitted with a ring handle on each side, a classical detail borrowed from bronze vessel design, and is cast in zinc alloy with a deep brown-black finish that gives the surface a mature, antique character well suited to the burner's auspicious theme.

The piece is made using Takaoka copperware (Takaoka Doki) techniques, a metal casting tradition practiced in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for more than 400 years. Artisans there pour molten metal into hand-formed molds and hand-finish each casting, giving Takaoka metalwork its characteristic weight, texture, and durability.

How to Use

Place a layer of ash in the burner, then set an incense cone, stick, or piece of charcoal on top to burn.
