Takaoka Metalwork Lion Incense Burner

This incense burner takes the form of a shishi, the guardian lion figure often seen at the entrances of Japanese shrines and temples. It is offered in two sizes and two color finishes.

This piece is a product of Takaoka copperware (Takaoka Doki), a metal casting tradition centered in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for over 400 years, cast here in zinc alloy.

Design Variations

Note: the color selector below shows "Blue" as the closest match in our standard color swatch options, but this finish is actually a blue-gold patina (青金, "seikin") — a shimmering blue-tinted gold tone, not a plain blue.

How to Use

Place a layer of incense ash inside the burner, then set a lit incense cone, stick, or piece of incense charcoal on top of the ash to enjoy the fragrance.
