Takaoka Copperware Dragon Ground Crest Incense Burner

This incense burner's surface is covered edge to edge with a dense dragon-scale ground pattern (ryuchimon), a hallmark decorative technique of Takaoka copperware in which the entire body is engraved with fine repeating relief work before finishing.

Takaoka, in Toyama Prefecture, has been Japan's leading centre of cast metalwork for more than 400 years, and pieces such as this are crafted by artisan Yoshihide Nosaku using traditional sand-mould casting and hand engraving.

Design Variations

• Small - Tokushoku Finish - the compact size, finished in the deep tokushoku patina.
• Large - Tokushoku Finish - a larger version of the same design and finish.
• Small - With Chrysanthemum Crest Stand - the compact size presented with a chrysanthemum crest (kikumon), wood stand, and wood nameplate.

How to Use

Fill the burner with incense ash, then place lit incense sticks, cones, or charcoal on top of the ash to enjoy the fragrance.
