Takaoka Metalwork Takara Incense Burner
Takaoka Metalwork Takara Incense Burner
This incense burner is decorated with an auspicious treasure (takara) motif, a design drawing on the traditional Japanese repertoire of lucky emblems associated with wealth and good fortune. Its rounded form and finely worked surface give it a dignified, celebratory character.
This piece is a work of Takaoka copperware (高岡銅器), a metal casting tradition passed down in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for over 400 years. It was crafted in copper by the artisan Eiju Tsuda (津田永寿).
How to Use
Place a layer of ash in the burner, then set a stick of incense, an incense cone, or lit charcoal on top of the ash to enjoy the fragrance.
