This low, flat incense burner is decorated with a roukaku sansui (pavilion and landscape) design, a classic East Asian motif depicting mountains, water, and pavilions nestled among the scenery. The composition evokes a quiet, contemplative retreat and pairs naturally with the burner's warm yamabuki-iro (golden-yellow) patina.

This piece is a work of Takaoka Metalwork (Takaoka Doki), a metal casting tradition centered in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, with a history of more than 400 years. Each burner is shaped using traditional sand-mold casting and finished by hand, with the yamabuki-iro patina bringing out warm golden tones in the copper surface.

How to Use

Fill the burner about two-thirds full with incense ash, then place lit incense cones, coils, or kneaded incense on top, or set glowing charcoal into the ash to enjoy fragrant woods.
