Star Anise Incense Material – Chips & Powder
Star Anise Incense Material – Chips & Powder
Daiuikyo (star anise) is a traditional incense material made from the fruit of an evergreen tree native to southern China.
Known in Japanese as daiuikyo and in English as star anise, this material is derived from the distinctive star-shaped fruit of an Illicium species. Its eight-pointed form has given rise to the Japanese name hakukaku-uikyo, reflecting its unique appearance.
Daiuikyo has long been recognized in East Asia as an aromatic plant. While it is widely known in culinary contexts, it has also been valued as a fragrance material, appreciated for its clear presence and easily recognizable character.
As an incense material, daiuikyo offers a fresh and gently sweet aroma that helps broaden the depth of a blend. Rather than serving as a base material, it is typically used to add dimension and lift, supporting other aromatic components within an incense composition.
While star anise is familiar as a culinary spice, this product is offered exclusively as a material for incense making. Please note that it is not intended for food use and should be used only for incense crafting.
Chips (Cut Form)
The dried fruit is cut into smaller pieces, making it suitable for sachet preparation or for use in traditional incense practices. This form allows selective use of its aromatic accents.
Powder
Finely processed daiuikyo that blends evenly with other incense materials. This form is commonly used in kneaded incense or stick incense making, where uniform distribution is required.
