Patchouli Incense Material – Chips & Powder
Kakkou (Patchouli) Incense Material
Kakkou (Patchouli) is a traditional incense material derived from the dried leaves and stems of a perennial herb in the mint family.
Known as kakkou in Japanese and patchouli in English, this aromatic plant is native to South Asia and is mainly cultivated in regions such as Indonesia and Malaysia. The leaves and stems are carefully dried to prepare the material for use in fragrance applications.
As an incense material, kakkou is characterized by a fresh, herbaceous aroma with a subtle sweetness. Its scent is often described as clean and slightly woody, reflecting its botanical origins within the mint family. These qualities distinguish it from resinous or purely woody incense materials.
Patchouli has a long history of use as an aromatic plant across various cultures and appears in records related to fragrance and botanical materials. In incense blending, kakkou is valued for adding clarity and contrast, helping to balance richer or denser aromatic components.
While the same plant is widely known as a herbal material, this product is offered exclusively as a material for incense making.
Please note that this incense material is not intended for food use and should be used only for incense crafting.
Chips (Cut Form)
The dried leaves and stems are cut into small pieces, making them suitable for sachet preparation or for use in traditional incense practices. This form allows the natural aromatic character to be handled with ease.
Powder
Finely processed kakkou that blends smoothly with other incense materials. This form is commonly used in kneaded incense or stick incense making, where even mixing is important.
