Clove Incense Material – Chips & Powder

Choji (clove) is a traditional incense material made from the dried flower buds of a tropical tree belonging to the myrtle family.

Known as choji in Japanese and clove in English, this aromatic material is prepared from the unopened buds of the clove tree. The name choji is said to originate from the bud’s shape, which resembles a small nail. It is mainly produced in regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and parts of Africa, where the buds are harvested just before blooming and carefully dried.

Choji has been valued for centuries as a distinctive aromatic material. In Europe, it has historically been used for its strong scent in various contexts, while in East Asia it has appeared in written records and traditions associated with fragrance and formality. In Japan, choji is also known through historical customs in which its aroma symbolized purification and mindfulness.

In incense traditions, choji provides a clearly defined and expressive note that adds depth and contrast when blended with other materials. Its aromatic character differs notably from woody incense materials such as sandalwood or agarwood, making it an accent ingredient rather than a base.

While the same plant is widely known in culinary and spice traditions, this product is offered exclusively as a material for incense making. Please note that it is not intended for food use and should be used only for incense crafting.

Chips (Cut Form)

The dried flower buds are cut into smaller pieces, making them suitable for use in sachets or for traditional incense burning. This form is easy to handle and blends well with other incense materials.

Powder

Finely ground choji that mixes smoothly and evenly with other incense materials. This form is commonly used for kneaded incense or stick incense making, where precise blending is required.
