This incense burner is shaped after the Uchide no Kozuchi, the "magic mallet" carried by Daikokuten, one of Japan's Seven Lucky Gods. In folklore, a single swing of this mallet grants any wish, making it a beloved motif for prosperity and good fortune. Cast in solid iron, the piece captures the mallet's rounded silhouette and rope-tied handle in fine, weighty detail.

The piece is made using Takaoka copperware (Takaoka Doki) techniques, a metal casting tradition that has been practiced in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for over 400 years. Skilled artisans pour molten metal into hand-formed molds and finish each casting with careful surface work, a process that gives Takaoka metalwork its distinctive depth of texture and lasting durability.

How to Use

Place a layer of ash in the burner, then set an incense cone, stick, or piece of charcoal on top to burn. The stand elevates the burner from the surface below, protecting furniture from heat.
