Rolling waves and a flock of plovers (chidori) decorate the surface of this incense burner, a classical motif that has long symbolized safe travel and harmony in Japanese design. The piece is finished in a warm toku-tone color that gives it a soft, aged appearance.

This piece is a product of Takaoka Metalwork, a traditional craft with over 400 years of history in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. The body is cast in copper and finished by hand in a toku-tone coloring technique developed by the region's artisans.

How to Use

Fill the bowl with ash, then place a lit incense cone, stick, or piece of charcoal on top of the ash to enjoy the fragrance.
