Takaoka Metalwork Sun Incense Burner

This incense burner takes its name and rounded, radiant silhouette from the sun ("yo"), a symbol of warmth, vitality, and positive energy in Japanese design. Cast in zinc alloy, the compact drum-shaped body has a smooth, softly domed profile that sits neatly on its accompanying stand.

The piece is made using Takaoka copperware (Takaoka Doki) techniques, a metal casting tradition practiced in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for more than 400 years. Artisans there pour molten metal into hand-formed molds and hand-finish each casting, giving Takaoka metalwork its characteristic weight, texture, and durability.

How to Use

Place a layer of ash in the burner, then set an incense cone, stick, or piece of charcoal on top to burn. The included stand keeps the burner elevated and protects the surface beneath it.
