Takaoka Metalwork Phoenix Incense Burner

This incense burner is cast in the form of a phoenix (hō-ō), a mythical bird from East Asian tradition associated with rebirth, virtue, and peace. Standing tall with wings and tail rendered in fine detail, it makes a striking centerpiece for a display shelf or a Buddhist altar.

This piece is a work of Takaoka copperware (高岡銅器), a metal casting tradition passed down in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for over 400 years. It was crafted in copper by the artisan Eiju Tsuda (津田永寿).

How to Use

Place a layer of ash in the burner, then set a stick of incense, an incense cone, or lit charcoal on top of the ash to enjoy the fragrance.
