This substantial incense burner is decorated with a kacho (flower and bird) design, a classical Japanese motif pairing seasonal blossoms with birds in flight. Its extra-large scale and sculptural relief work make it an imposing centerpiece for a large tokonoma alcove, entrance hall, or temple setting.

This piece is a work of Takaoka Metalwork (Takaoka Doki), a metal casting tradition centered in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, with a history of more than 400 years. Each burner is shaped using traditional sand-mold casting and finished by hand, with the tokushoku patina bringing out the depth and warmth of the copper surface.

How to Use

Fill the burner about two-thirds full with incense ash, then place lit incense cones, coils, or kneaded incense on top, or set glowing charcoal into the ash to enjoy fragrant woods.
