This incense burner takes the form of a simple, rounded jar (tsubo), a vessel shape with roots in ancient Japanese and Chinese pottery and metalwork. Its clean silhouette and understated surface let the quality of the casting itself take center stage, making it a versatile piece for both everyday use and display.

This piece is a work of Takaoka copperware (高岡銅器), a metal casting tradition passed down in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for over 400 years. It was crafted in copper by the artisan Eiju Tsuda (津田永寿).

How to Use

Place a layer of ash in the burner, then set a stick of incense, an incense cone, or lit charcoal on top of the ash to enjoy the fragrance.
