The name Fukutanuki is a playful pun combining "fuku" (good fortune) with "tanuki," the raccoon dog long regarded in Japanese folklore as a bringer of prosperity and protection. This incense burner is cast in solid iron with a rounded, jovial silhouette that reflects the tanuki's cheerful, lucky character, making it a popular gift for new homes and business openings.

The piece is made using Takaoka copperware (Takaoka Doki) techniques, a metal casting tradition practiced in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, for more than 400 years. Artisans pour molten metal into hand-formed molds and hand-finish each casting, giving Takaoka metalwork its characteristic weight, texture, and durability.
