Its name is said to originate from Anna Maria, the 17th-century Queen of the Duchy of Nerola in Italy, who cherished this scent.

At the time, leather gloves worn by aristocratic women often carried an unpleasant odor. Anna Maria perfumed her gloves with the sweet and elegant aroma of orange blossoms, transforming them into objects of refinement.
