An Original Sect-Specific Formal Bracelet Featuring the August Birthstone

This is an original Kohgen Ojuzu-kan creation from our 'Sect & Birthstone Series,' pairing Starry Moon Bodhi Seed (Hoshizuki Bodaiju) main beads with sardonyx, the August birthstone, in the formal style of the Shingon sect.

The main beads are made from Hoshizuki Bodhi seeds sourced from Hainan Island, China — considered the finest grade available. Each seed is said to resemble the night sky: countless small dark speckles like stars, and a single larger mark from the stem like the moon. Since ancient times, the cosmos has been associated with the world of the Buddha, and it is also said that Buddha attained enlightenment beneath a Bodhi tree, adding to the seed's spiritual significance.

Sardonyx (banded agate), the August birthstone, is formed from tiny quartz crystals and is known for its distinctive banded pattern of vivid orange and white. We paired its lustrous coloring with an ash-pink tassel. Sardonyx is said to symbolize marital happiness and harmony, as well as bring good encounters to those who are single, making it a stone associated with love and relationships. It also makes a wonderful gift for those born in August.

This formal bracelet follows the traditional form of the Shingon sect, believed to be the first sect to bring prayer beads to Japan, and closely resembles the authentic hachishu-common (eight-sect) rosary in shape, typically featuring two tassels front and back strung with red cord.
