KYARA Incense Set with Nambu Ironware Holder by Ken Okuyama Design

This limited‑edition set combines Baieido’s kyara‑based incense with an origami‑inspired Nambu ironware holder designed by KEN OKUYAMA DESIGN. It offers a refined, modern expression of Japanese incense culture, featuring a mellow and dignified kyara aroma.

KYARA is a collaboration between KEN OKUYAMA DESIGN—led by industrial designer Kiyoyuki Ken Okuyama, renowned for projects such as Ferrari and Maserati—and Baieido. The incense holder is crafted in Iwate from Nambu ironware, its origami‑inspired planes expressing a modern form with a distinctly Japanese character. This limited edition was released to commemorate Baieido’s 356th anniversary.

About kyara: In Japanese incense culture, “kyara” refers to the most highly prized grade of aloeswood, cherished for its dignified sweetness and profound depth. Because the natural material is extraordinarily rare, kyara incenses are composed to emphasize elegance over volume, allowing a calm, time‑honored aroma to unfold.

This set pairs the cast‑iron holder with twenty short sticks of kyara‑based incense (approx. 30 minutes per stick). The dial‑like marks on the holder may be used as a “fragrance clock,” with each mark representing about 10 minutes—so you can savor the gentle passage of time as the incense burns.

The incense presents a mellow kyara profile—soft, poised, and quietly layered—reflecting Baieido’s classical blending approach. It makes a distinguished gift and a refined companion for unhurried moments.
