Healing — A time to relax your mind and feel refreshed
Wrapped in fragrance, breathe slowly and deeply.
Your body, mind, and space are purified, giving you a moment of cleanliness.
Want to relax with fragrance
There are countless types of scents, and everyone has their own preferences. The interesting part is that you’re not limited to just one scent. To find your favorite incense scent, try burning various incense and discover the fragrance families you like.
If you want to try many kinds at once, we recommend the “Incense Trial Set” where you can experience 20 different scents with just one set!

Welcome guests with fragrance from the entrance
Have you ever experienced a gentle pleasant scent wafting from the entrance of a ryokan, hotel, traditional restaurant, or shop? When you suddenly notice it, it feels special and a little delightful. Welcoming guests with fragrance is a subtle gesture of care that can easily be done at home. By burning incense beforehand, you can greet guests with a space filled with fragrance.
If the area is well-ventilated with good air circulation, “spiral incense” that burns slowly and lasts long is recommended. If it’s difficult to use fire near the entrance, larger “floor-standing scented bags” or aroma-based “rattan bouquets” are also good options.

Want to spread fragrance in the room immediately
If you know in advance that guests will come, you can prepare slowly, but what if unexpected guests arrive? When you want to quickly fill the room with fragrance and get ready, easily usable incense is recommended.
“Cone incense” burns out in about 10 minutes, and its conical shape increases the burning surface area as it burns, so the fragrance spreads quickly.
If you find it difficult to use fire, “incense sprays” that just need to be sprayed into the air are also good.
Between the two, cone incense that burns by taking in surrounding air is more recommended for refreshing the air.

Want to incorporate fragrance into hobbies and daily life
Overseas, there is a boom incorporating incense fragrance into meditation times such as Zen and mindfulness.
Stick incense is popular because it’s convenient for timing and has the largest variety of scents. About 13cm long, it burns for around 30 minutes. Measuring time by fragrance without looking at a clock can be a fun experience!

Want to deodorize
Incense is originally more about masking odors than deodorizing like deodorants. Adding fragrance overlays weakens the original smell. However, recently there is increasing demand for incense with deodorizing effects, such as incense containing green tea-derived deodorizing ingredient Sunflavon, or incense sticks that deodorize while spreading fragrance more easily in the space.

Want to use during seasonal clothing change
In the Heian period, it was popular to scent clothes with a personal fragrance. Why not transfer an elegant scent to your clothes using incense made specifically for clothing?
Recently, managing clothes hung all year round in walk-in closets without seasonal changes has become more common. In such cases, hanging a scented bag together is also recommended.

Want to try scents from various production areas
At Kohgen, we select and sell recommended incense products made by manufacturers from all over Japan. There are various incense scents, and depending on the production area, there are tendencies and characteristics in the fragrance.
For example, incense from Sakai, Osaka — said to be the birthplace of incense — features a mild scent blended with Chinese herbal medicines. The roots come from Sakai’s prosperous trading history, where many incense raw materials were imported from overseas.
Incense made in Kyoto, home to aristocrats and nobles, somehow carries a luxurious fragrance reminiscent of the capital.
Now, which region’s incense brand do you usually use? How about trying incense from a different production area sometimes?
